Biography: born on September 5, 1954 in the city of Taldykorgan.

Education: higher education, Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov (1976).

Work experience:

1976-1979 Teacher of Taldy-Kurgan Pedagogical Institute;

since 1979, postgraduate, senior laboratory assistant, junior, senior, leading researcher at the Institute of History and Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan;

1990-1991 Advisor to the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan;

1999-2022 RSE “Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (CSM RK);

2022 Chief Researcher of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch.Valikhanov CS MES RK.

Alimbay N.A. is the winner of the following awards:

2002 – honorary name “Honored Worker of Kazakhstan”;

2002 – Jubilee Medal “10 years of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”;

2010 – order “Kurmet”;

2011 – Jubilee Medal 20 years of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”;

2013 – European gold medal of the European Scientific and industrial chamber;

2013 – Golden Medal of the International Organization of Turkish culture (TURKSOY);

2018 – Jubilee Medal”20 years of Astana”;

2021 – Jubilee Medal “30 years of independence of Kazakhstan”.

Scientific interests: Specialist in historical ethnography and oral history of Kazakhs, theoretical and methodological problems of nomadism, folklore studies.

Scientific achievements:

Since 2005, on the personal initiative and direct guidance of Professor N.A. Alimbay, the following innovations have been introduced:

– in the history of national museums, the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan officially received the status of a scientific organization, started implementing major research projects;

– in the history of Russian museums, an international action “Night at the Museum” was organized, which has traditionally been held every year since then;

– over 10 scientific catalogues have been created, which represent a special genre of scientific research, but also act as a kind of effective form of museum resource management;

– lectures are held for students, undergraduates, doctoral students in the field of anthropology and ethnology;

– as part of the development of international cooperation, conferences, museum exhibitions are held together with foreign museums, research, educational and cultural institutions (France, Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, etc.), with further publication of collections of materials.

Since 2008, on the initiative and with the direct participation of Nursan Alimbay, the Scientific Library of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been functioning, where special scientific and educational literature is concentrated, there is a basic and rare fund, archival materials and periodicals. Under the leadership of Nursan Alimbay, the Presidential Culture Center was created, which became the basis for the creation of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He also developed the concept of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

To date, 17 candidates of sciences have defended themselves under his leadership. He is the head of 2 doctoral students (according to the joint educational integration program between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Research Institute, CSM RK).

Member of the permanent expert commission under the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan; member of the UNESCO Commission.
